Artist Statement

Looseleaf Handcrafted Stories was created because there's something magical about a one-of-a-kind document that comes from the writer's hands to yours.

I love writing - and receiving - letters.  I love that someone - perhaps a friend halfway around the world, took the time to write those lines, fold the paper, and address the envelope to me.

In the world of mainstream, "mass market" publishing, writers have become celebrities; there's a divide between the author and the reader.  I hope to bring some sense of intimacy and of community back to story writing.

Testimonials

I love to hear from my readers, and to see photos of Looseleaf stories in their new homes!  You can read one of my favorite stories below, and you can also check out my feedback on etsy.

From Christine and Tom MacVittie...

You can see the story "Fall Flush" in its new home in the photos at right. Christine and Tom MacVittie were kind enough to send me these photos along with their own story of receiving this gift:

Hi Kristen,
My name is Christine Cooke-MacVittie; my husband and I received "Fall Flush" as a wedding gift from a good friend. She had given you [five] phrases to use in the story, and nothing else. You chose to create a story with Titania, Oberon, and lovers from A Midsummer Night's Dream. You would not believe how perfectly appropriate and touching your story was.

How could you have known that as actors, that Midsummer was the first play my husband and I starred in together; he as Oberon, myself as one of the lovers. We received this gift two weeks before the wedding, in the midst of craziness, turmoil, and a rather uncharacteristic fight about the music to be played at the wedding. Your story touched us so much and helped us to remember the only thing that mattered during all this "wedding nonsense," was us.

Not that gifts of dishes and kitchen appliances aren't appreciated, but the gift of romance, intrigue, and a story that was so unique to us will stand the test of time.

Snuggled on the couch together, we read the story while holding hands. My soon-to-be-husband looked at me and said, "Looks like I have been recast. I've always wanted to be one of the lovers with you!" Needless to say, I cried even harder.

I have always enjoyed storytelling, and am known for telling "Family Classics" to everyone. What greater gift is there than an original story to be shared with others? We show our story to everyone who visits and look forward to, hopefully one day, sharing our story with our children. I am always looking for new and inspiring gifts to give, and have quite a few ideas brewing for you! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

With thanks,
Christine and Tom MacVittie
